Abstract:To understand the contamination status of Pb, Hg and As in health foods. MethodsHealth food samples from 2008to 2011were tested for Pb, As and Hg by national standard methods, and data were analyzed with SPSS 13.0software. ResultsThe detection rates of Pb, As and Hg among 851samples were 32.37%, 66.67% and 63.83%, respectively. 8.42%, 7.97% and 1.86% of the samples failed to pass the national standars, with means of 1.03,0.44and 0.08mg/kg for Pb, As and Hg, respectively. The descending order for Pb and Hg contamination was plant products, animal products and nutritional supplements. The descending order for As was animal products, plant products and nutritional supplements. The descending order for Pb in different formulation was pills, granules, capsules, tablets and liquids, while for As and Hg was pills, capsules, granules, tablets and liquids. 59.93% of the samples were positive for more than one contaminant of Pb, Hg and As,Pb and Hg were detcted simultaneously in 44.90% of the samples. ConclusionContamination of Pb, Hg and As in health foods were common and serious, and mainly related to food materials fro, plants and animals.
